FAB starts operating the first Remote Aerodrome Control Tower

On October 18, 2019, the first Remote Control Tower in Latin America was inaugurated at the Santa Cruz airfield in Rio de Janeiro, marking an important step forward in Brazilian Airspace Control. During the ceremony, Lieutenant Brigadier Jeferson Domingues de Freitas stressed that the new technology aims to improve the quality and safety of air transportation. The tower has 16 cameras, including two with Pan Tilt Zoom technology, which provide a wide and detailed view of the area of operation, allowing for the monitoring of aircraft and fauna on the runways. With this innovation, air control activities, such as landing and take-off authorizations, will be carried out with the same efficiency as a conventional tower, also offering the possibility of managing traffic in regions that are difficult to access in the future. Major Brigadier Fernando Cesar Pereira Santos stressed the importance of this technology for efficiency and cost-effectiveness in the operations of the Brazilian Airspace Control System.
